The book was conceived and written by Samuel Griffin III – a life-long security professional who has spent the last 25 years growing his security and executive protection agency into a fully staffed company that handles a variety of services for Fortune 500 companies, presidential candidates, heads of state, and A-list celebrities. “Rent-A-Cop Reboot” was designed to encourage those at the start of what could be a promising career – whether they’re just entering the workforce or switching professions.
“It’s a diagram of how to become a security professional, and if you already are one, how to reboot your professional life,” Griffin says.
For those at the beginning of the career path, the book details the steps it takes to get started – from fingerprinting and background checks to finding and receiving the proper training.
“And if you feel like you love the profession, it also guides you on how to become a security company,” he adds.
The book developed from company blog posts Griffin wrote offering advice on staying safe and how to keep well-being in mind. When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, he says it felt like a great time to put the message in book form.
As a child who grew up in a home destabilized by violence, Griffin vowed to make protecting others his life’s mission. He opened his own business in 1996 with his wife, Imani, in Newport News, Va. Leumas Security Services grew to offer security guard services as well as security consulting for individuals and organizations across the nation.
